Peter,

The villa was superb!

Why? Location – set high up, not overlooked, private yet not quite secluded, quiet & peaceful, extensive grounds, easy to find.

 Accommodation – exceptionally well laid out with 4 distinct and well laid out sleeping areas. Pleasant Lounge / games area. Large Dining/sitting room.

Kitchen – everything we needed was there, good range of electrical appliances.

Facilities – Pool constant 29 deg, Hot Tub constant 37.5 deg (operates upto 39deg), Steam shower only used as a shower but excellent, Sauna not used (but available). Various gaming items to keep children happy for when they are not in the pool.

Towels & Linen more than adequate.

What did we get up to?

We relaxed, we read, we used the pool & hot tub and then we did it all again!

Did we do anything interesting?

See above! & did we go anywhere? Why? it was all there.

The weather was excellent (probably the second best week of the year so far) 50% of our meals we had outside on a choice of deck/patio areas.

 Would we return?

WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT

The holiday was superb. The Photo’s don’t do the villa and surroundings justice. I keep meaning to write a recommendation for it but haven’t had the time. Would that be of interest? We have a few tips for other users so let me know. Trouble is, we don’t want it to get too popular as we may go back!!!

Dear Peter,

Thank you, we had a wonderful time in Portugal. The weather was wonderful so we were at the beach just about every day. This was greatly appreciated since we missed out on summer weather in Norway this year.

This was a family holidy with our daughter and her family (an infant and toddler) and so we didn’t do much sightseeing or dining in restaurants. We simply enjoyed digging in the sand on the beach, wandering in Cascais and Lisbon, and having some leisurely evenings in the villa.

Hi Peter,

We had a lovely time at Maricar Villa, the pool was great and we needed it in the heat. The gardens around the villa were lovely, and we had a great time with the lizards, cicadas and even a praying mantis, which the children loved.

On the whole we had a lovely time in the pool or driving around the local sights or enjoying sitting out in the evening with Freddie the lizard having a BBQ and drink of wine!

We loved the Riu Rau restaurant just at the end of the road, a little expensive but fantastic service and meal. The Acqua Bar & Steakhouse at Playa Arenal was great value for money, with nice atmosphere, great view and service, but very popular, need to get in early.

Hi Peter,

The holiday was great and we all really enjoyed it. The old mill would not be to everyones taste and was inevitably a bit dusty but was a place of character. The grounds were extensive with plenty of entertainment for the children. The owners were also really friendly and brought us fresh home grown tomatoes and courgettes every few days (I’ve never eaten so many courgettes in my life) as well as leaving a bottle of house wine in the fridge for our arrival. There are no restaurants or bars particularly close which is a pity but nothing can be done about that.

We spent most of the time at the mill but did have a few day trips out. Futuroscope was good fun but would be a nightmare if it was really busy.
